Alsatians and Mosellans had to change nationality 4th times between 1871 and 1945. Through an immersive scenography, the Memorial Alsace-Moselle sheds light upon the unique history of these territories, from 1870 to nowadays, with a focus on World War II.

From 1940 to 1945, Alsace and Moselle were the only parts of French territory suffering a de facto annexation by the Third Reich. This meant that were subjected to the extreme violence that comes with living under a totalitarian regime.

To understand this situation, one must trace back the long history of a region which had already been the object of fights between France and Germany, and today’s rich culture inherited from this fight.

This site offers a universal message where one can learn the necessity to respect each other’s diversity and to unite Europeans, both to maintain peace and freedom. The final room is dedicated to the European construction.
